Cooperating Graduate School Program

Student Enrollment　Overview of the Cooperating Graduate School Program (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and National Institute for Materials Science) and Enrollment by Graduate Students

In the academic majors in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, a Cooperating Graduate School Program is conducted with the following institutions.

• National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST)

Research group of Professor Makoto Kobashi, Professor Noritaka Usami, Professor Seiichi Takami (Materials Process Engineering)

• National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS)

Research group of Professor Toru Ujihara (Materials Process Engineering)

If you wish to study through the Cooperating Graduate School Program with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), please apply to the collaborative research group via the August graduate-school entrance examination. Please check below for details. • Professor Seiichi Takami, Visiting Professor Yoshitake Masuda (Electroceramics Group, Innovative Functional Materials Research Institute, AIST Chubu)

• Professor Noritaka Usami, Visiting Professor Takuya Matsui (Global Zero Emission Research Center, AIST Tsukuba)


2. How Research Is Conducted

In the Cooperating Graduate School Program, research is carried out through multiple guidance programs of Nagoya University instructors and visiting professors from collaborating research institutions. Students are assigned to the Koyama Laboratory, Kobashi Laboratory, Takami Laboratory, or Usami Laboratory, and seminars (zemi) and research activities are conducted. In cases where the collaborating instructor belongs AIST Chubu, research is carried out at AIST Chubu (https://www.aist.go.jp/chubu/) around three times a week (which may be subject to variation according to the laboratory). In cases where the collaborating instructor belongs AIST Tsukuba, concentrated research during a specific period is conducted at AIST Tsukuba (https://www.aist.go.jp/tsukuba/). This Cooperating Graduate School Program also provides opportunities to be employed by AIST as a research assistant (RA) and carry out research while earning a salary.
